18. Alnwick Castle
Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is a striking example of a fortress-turned-family residence whose history spans nearly a millennium. Initially founded in the late 11th century soon after the Norman Conquest, it was substantially rebuilt and extended over the following centuries.
